Warhammer Online Official Newsletters - 2006 Newsletters

Earlier this week we announced that Electronic Arts will be acquiring Mythic Entertainment. This is exciting news for fans anticipating the release of WAR in 2007. EA's resources as a publisher will ensure that we can create a game of unsurpassed quality, scope and scale. It will also ensure that we can reach players all around the world.

In other news, earlier this month we announced that WAR will be operated across Europe by GOA, the France Telecom-owned publisher of online games. GOA has successfully operated Dark Age of Camelot in Europe with Mythic since 2001 and has built the game into one of the leading MMORPG's in Europe. With five years of experience working together and a proven track record, we look forward to this partnership achieving an even greater level of success with WAR. The game will ship simultaneously in the US and Europe in the fall of 2007.

In any game, but especially in a large MMO, the numbers can get crazy if you don’t keep them on a tight leash. It’s a delicate balancing act between making character abilities exciting and cool (which to most players means they look great, feel unique and do lots of damage or other useful effects) and keeping everything scaled appropriately in relation to everything else. To accomplish this, everything must be built around a framework of numbers.

This month's featured zone is the legendary Dwarf port of Barak Varr. If you missed the past zone features, be sure to check them out in the Zone Overviews section of the website.

Barak Varr is the lone seaport of the Dwarf lands, and has long been a key commercial center of the Old World. Although the lands of Barak Varr technically include all of the ports, docks, and anchorages that line the easternmost limb of the Black Gulf, what most mean when they refer to 'Barak Varr' is the Great Cove, the massive port facility hewn deep into the Cliffs of Gamrud.

"At the head of the Bloody Sun Boyz tribe, Grumlok and Gazbag set about subjugating all of the tribes between their lands and those of the Dwarfs as they marched toward Karak Eight Peaks. By the time they reach the great Dwarf fortress, their horde had swelled to a size unequalled in all of history".

The Fall of Karak Eight Peaks
By Alex Boyd

This is the second of three paintings commissioned by Mythic to illustrate the events leading up to the Age of Reckoning. This painting details the assault by the Bloody Sun Boyz, led by the massive Black Orc, Grumlok, and the diminutive Goblin Shaman, Gazbag, (seen in the distance) on the Dwarf hold of Karak Eight Peaks.

"It's WARHAMMER! Need I say more? Really, if you had to pick a fantasy (Or Sci Fi for that matter) setting for an online game Warhammer has to be one of the top picks."

"Mostly I review the design documents for an area with my team. Then assignments are passed out and everyone gets to work. Sometimes I burst into flames (with horns mind you) and stomp around while the developers scurry around trying to find out what they did wrong."
